Radon mitigation in Harrisburg, SD

Radon testing and mitigation for homes in Harrisburg and Lincoln County.

Harrisburg is one of the fastest-growing towns around Sioux Falls, and much of its housing is new. New construction doesn't mean low radon. Radon comes from the soil, and a brand-new basement slab can let it in just like an old one.

Harrisburg is in Lincoln County, part of eastern South Dakota's EPA Zone 1, the highest predicted radon category.

New homes and radon

  • Passive pipes. Some new homes are built with a passive radon pipe running from under the slab to the roof, but no fan. If your home tests high, a contractor can often add a fan to that pipe, which usually costs less than a full system.
  • Test after you move in. Test once the house is lived in with normal heating and cooling. Builder tests before move-in don't always reflect real conditions.
  • Finishing the basement later. If you plan to finish the basement, test and fix first so the pipe can be routed cleanly.
