Box Elder sits just east of Rapid City, next to Ellsworth Air Force Base. A lot of homes here change hands when service members arrive or relocate, and radon tests are a routine part of those home inspections.
Box Elder is in Pennington County. The Black Hills region has produced some of the highest radon readings in South Dakota, and the only way to know your home's level is to test it.
Moving to or from Box Elder
- Buying. If the inspection shows 4.0 pCi/L or higher, you can ask the seller to install a system or credit you the cost. A written quote helps that conversation.
- Selling. Fixing radon before you list can remove a common sticking point with buyers.
- New construction. Newer homes still need testing. Radon comes from the soil, not the age of the house.
